About Divergent Great Danes
Breeding Great Danes is something we do because we truly love this incredible breed. Our Danes are not kennel dogs; they are members of our family and an important part of our everyday lives. With more than 30 years of experience with Great Danes and over a decade involved in showing, we have developed a deep appreciation for the qualities that make this breed so extraordinary.
Our goal is not simply to produce beautiful puppies, but to thoughtfully breed Great Danes with health, temperament, structure, conformation, longevity, and size always at the forefront of our decisions.
Every breeding is carefully planned. We consider much more than appearance or color when choosing a pairing. Pedigrees, genetics, health testing, structure, temperament, strengths and weaknesses, and what each individual dog can contribute to the next generation are all taken into consideration. Our breeding dogs undergo breed-appropriate health testing, and we take pride in knowing the dogs behind our lines whenever possible. Several of our Danes represent multiple generations of our own breeding program, giving us firsthand knowledge of the health, temperament, structure, development, and longevity within those lines.
When we introduce a dog from an outside bloodline into our program, we are equally selective about where that dog comes from. We seek out ethical, responsible breeders who share our commitment to health testing, sound temperament, proper structure, and thoughtful breeding practices. We expect the same standards from the programs we bring into our own that we expect of ourselves. Introducing new bloodlines is done deliberately, with the goal of strengthening genetic diversity while preserving the health, temperament, structure, and quality we have worked so hard to establish within Divergent Great Danes.
Temperament is especially important to us. Great Danes are incredibly powerful dogs, and their tremendous size makes a stable, trustworthy temperament essential. We will not knowingly breed a dog displaying aggression, an unstable temperament, or characteristics we would not want passed to future generations. We strive to produce confident, affectionate, intelligent Danes with the loving, devoted nature for which the breed is so well known. They should be impressive in appearance while still being the gentle giants families can confidently welcome into their homes.
